Has anyone else heard about March 1st being a restricted opener? Specific lakes and creeks with some restrictions on types of baits and number of keepers.

In their attempt to make things "simpler", DFG has created a nightmare of regulation changes. I'm not even sure if the wardens know what's going on. The way I look at it, none of the places I fish have changed anything, I'm not going to worry about anything else. Best of luck in trying to figure things out. Some of us locals think that DFG got pissed when we went against their proposed changes a couple of years ago, and decided to screw with us.....

I’ll be headed up the second week in March to see how the fishing is. I’ll look for the info that was sent to me regarding the new regulations.

Make sure you read the "excepts"....most of what is opening is backcountry, inaccessible at this point. The "excepts" are generally lakes with resorts or docks...just be careful about where you go..

Thanks for the heads up, we plan on fishing the rivers and streams mostly and will see what the snow level is like in the back country. Hopefully the wardens will have the same outlook on the confusion of the rules as we do.

Just got back from fishing Hot Creek, Upper Owens, Lower Owens and Bishop Creek areas. Did good at all of them except Intake 2 that just had a small ares that wasn’t frozen over and Upper Owens due to the wind. Was stopped by one game warden and asked to see our license and checked our cooler. This gave me an opportunity to ask him questions about the new regulations on baits. I had just purchased worms and eggs from Sierra Slammers and showed them to him and he advised me that they did not fall under the artificial bait regulations even though they are man made and non scented. He had a 5 page cheat sheet that he would look at to give us our answers from. The employees at Reagan’s in Bishop said they were told by two of the local Fish and Game Officers that this year would be more of educating of the new regulations and that no regulations book will be printed this year.

The fish apparently took Wayne`s advise, because I couldn`t get them to jump on my flies, other than a couple of small browns on the LO wild trout section. Great weather and good times hanging out with friends, No Regrets !
Looking forward to my next visit !
