This is my yearly "it's all mine" message. The snow from the last storm has pretty much disappeared until you get to the Lake, there's snow in shady spots. Went for a walk along the west shore, no snow at all. The gate is closed at the Pack Station, the gate is closed at the entrance to the Lake campgrounds. All the CGs are closed now, even Holiday (?)...it never opened last winter. One maintenance guy closing things down, when he's gone....It's all mine! It's pretty surprising, with the recent snow melting in the warm temps, the creek is higher than it was in June, or any time this summer.

Thanks for the update. Enjoy the solitude (with the exception of Crazy Mammoth Bound 395 racers). Easy enough to take the old road to escape them. Hoping it will turn out to be a decent winter as I also was sad to see the creek flow the first of June was lower then late October levels.
Is Mike the one closing things up? Wondering if he made a descision about an offer he had for next season.

I was just thinking the other day that this would be a great time of year to live up there. (or any other time) Because on the nicer days I could just run over for some uncrowded fishing. Seems like a great time for a deep drift of a crawler. or maybe work the inlet for big Browns.

You're right. Gary, on all counts. It's been unusually warm, creeks are running better than mid summer...a buddy and I are thinking about fishing the lake this weekend.

Never give up my big boy pants. Just will not worry about snow collapsing my tent. Early March trip to Tuff already on the books.

So, I took Gary's advice, and went up to fish the Lake yesterday. Amazingly beautiful morning, almost T-shirt weather, calm, not a cloud in the sky. A few people walking around the lake, a few guys fishing. No action at all out of three rods, then I got one subtle strike, didn't think much about it, no fight while reeling in, then we saw it...one of the Desert Springs trout...I've stocked a lot of them, but have only caught a few, kind of disappointed that he didn't put up a better fight. Maybe 3 lbs., easily unhooked and released, I didn't want to have to clean it...! The first fish I've caught all season (didn't go out much due to heat and crowds), a good ending to an interesting season. Mike is almost done with his closing chores, on his way in a week or so, then it will be mine...

Wow, the ones I have caught fought really hard, strong healthy fish. Guess yours said why swim when you can get towed....

This one was like reeling in a log. I caught one a few years ago that was kinda the same, no fight, when I got him to shore, I could see he had a really small tail, probably a birth defect, he couldn't do much in the fighting department. I wrote this one off to cold water...sounds good anyway.

I was thinking cold water also but it can't be that cold yet. Folks ice fishing in the spring still get a good fight. Who knows? But I got up at 4am yesterday to go to work and got home at 6pm so I'm still jealous
