During the off season a 30 foot tree fell across the Bear box and table in spot 110. Until the forest service removes it, that spot will be closed. Camp hosts hope it will be done before the reservation dates start as people slotted for that spot will need to be relocated.

Hey Scout, maybe if you help with tree removal you can stock up on firewood. Just a thought...

They've been spinning their wheels for weeks on this tree. It didn't fall into anything that I saw, just laying there. I could cut it up in about half an hour, but they have to wait for...? I miss Chuck....

With reservations starting in the spots this weekend, bet they get it out quick now.

They cut it into 6 foot lengths, and moved it a little, now it's out of the way. People showing up, seems weird somehow....

Thanks for the update Scout. So you can stay in 110 now? Table and bear box are intact? Hopefully it will be cleared out soon. Maybe they can cut it into firewood and leave it there for me!!!!

The tree didn't hit anything when it fell, table and bear box are fine. I'm tempted to go up and get it, but doubt that they'd let me....now it's just yard art.

Would really like to know why the decision was made to have all sites have to be reserved...Almost all of my trips hare a spur of the moment to go camping..

Last week, up around site 86/88, we watched as a couple fellas felled a couple trees, say that three times fast. They said they couldn't move it due to the beetle. They just brushed them out off to one side and left them, everything. The camp host said they couldn't do anything either due to the chainsaw/fire restriction. Heck of a lot of wood if you bring a handsaw though. Seems the best thing to do would at least work on the brush pile for a good amount of kindling and cowboy campfire wood.

Then they'll tell you that you need a firewood collecting permit....

Stayed a week ending on 8/24. Due to some back issues my buddy I usually camp with had to cancel, so I camped alone. Outside of getting caught in a downpour while fishing above Upper Pine Grove, the weather was fairly good. Warm for the first few nights, but it did get in the mid 30's a couple of nights later in the week. Bears are still roaming East Fork, but no real problems that I saw. Water levels are lower than when I was at East Fork with my wife last month, and fishing was slower too, but they are out there. Best luck was with Elk Hair Caddis flies. As far as I can tell, don't think they have planted the Oregon trout for a few weeks and no DFW plants due to the hatchery issues. East Fork seemed about 30%-40% full. Plenty of empty spots at East Fork, and seemed to be many reserved spots that were no shows. First time in years Iris Meadow was almost empty. Depending on the direction of the wind, smoke from fires around the state was evident. Met with a friend and his daughter one day at East Fork to fish, they were staying in Mammoth. Thanks to Scout for showing me some new fishing spots. Scout, it was good seeing my four legged friends Maggie & Lilly. Despite some of the issues, it was a wonderful week in the Canyon! Packer, sorry you had to cancel.
